Casa Quetzal was purchased in 2003 by well-known Vermont, painter Cynthia Price and her business partner Charles Knox. The changes to hotel have been many, some subtle, some more apparent - though none took away from the original vision of a place in San Miguel. The aesthetics were heightened with more gardens, a new fountain, and more detailed touches in each suite. Efforts were made to make the rooms more appealing to the international traveler by such additions as coffee machines, bathrobes, and special waters and teas in each room.

Antigua Villa Santa Monica is a Luxury Boutique Hotel in San Miguel de Allende, this Hotel is an architectural jewel as well as a comfortable setting to relax on your next vacation.

There are fourteen private suites, all on one level with a unique and impeccably furnished in a traditional colonial style. You will encounter in each suite furnishings ranging from forged iron beds dressed with inviting bedding, curtains designed with local fabrics, tile floors with unique regional rugs, roofs lined with wooden beams, antique handmade tiles, Talavera lamps, and romantic fireplaces.

The building was constructed in the 17th Century as the home of a famous and wealthy miner of that age. After the Mexican Revolution, this well known family abandoned the property to leave the country and it started to deteriorate seriously.

In 1930, the ruins were bought by José Mojica, a famous open singer and movie actor and director of the post revolutionary era of Mexico. Jose Mojica used to invite his friends from the movie environment and artists such as Jorge Negrete, Dolores del Río, María Felix, Pedro Infante, Indio Fernandez, Jorge Navarro, Pedro Vargas, Agustin Lara, Pedro Armendaris, John Wayne, Gary Cooper and John Ford among many others. In fact there are some trees in the property that show plates with the names of those who planted them.
